Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

You must meet at least one of the following criteria from a recognized institution (NCVT/SCVT/AICTE): 

  • 10th Pass + ITI: Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI in specific trades.
  • 10th Pass + Apprenticeship:  Matriculation/SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in specified trades.
  • Diploma: 3-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering (or a combination of these streams).
  • Degree: B.E. or B.Tech in the same engineering disciplines mentioned above.

Selection Process

The selection process for the ALP post involves multiple stages to ensure that the most qualified candidates are selected.

Stage 1: CBT (CBT-1)

This is a screening test used to shortlist candidates for the next round. Its marks are not counted in the final merit list. 

  • Total Questions: 75
  • Total Marks: 75
  • Duration: 60 Minutes
  • Subjects: Mathematics (20), General Intelligence & Reasoning (25), General Science (20), and General Awareness (10).
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each wrong answer.
  • Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS (40%), OBC/SC (30%), ST (25%). 

Stage 2: CBT (CBT-2)

Candidates equal to 15 times the number of vacancies in each zone are shortlisted for this stage. 

  • Structure: 175 questions across two parts (2.5 hours total duration).
  • Part A (100 Questions, 90 Mins): Includes Maths, Reasoning, and Basic Science & Engineering. This part is crucial as it carries 70% weightage in the final merit.
  • Part B (75 Questions, 60 Mins): Trade-specific qualifying test. Candidates must score at least 35% regardless of their category to qualify. 

Stage 3: Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

  • Commonly called: The “Psycho Test.”
  • Format: 5 different “test batteries” (memory, focus, speed).
  • Scoring: You must pass every single battery. It carries 30% weightage for the final merit.

Stage 4: Document Verification (DV)

  • Process: Checking your original 10th/12th certificates, ITI/Diploma/Degree marksheet, and Caste Certificate (if applicable).

Stage 5: Medical Examination

  • Standard: Must meet the A-1 Medical Category.
  • Focus: Perfect vision (6/6 without glasses) and no color blindness.

Final Merit Calculation:

  • 70% of your Part A (Stage 2) score + 30% of your CBAT (Stage 3) score.

How to Apply for Indian Railways ALP Recruitment 2026

Candidates must follow the online application process carefully.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step 1: Create an Account

  • Register: Enter your name, date of birth, father’s name, and mother’s name exactly as they appear in your 10th/Matriculation certificate.
  • Contact Info: Provide a valid mobile number and email address. You will receive an OTP (One-Time Password) to verify these.
  • Create Password: Set a secure password for your login.
  • Aadhaar Verification: You must provide your Aadhaar number. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to provide an alternative ID (PAN, Voter ID, etc.).

Step 2: Fill Personal & Educational Details

  • Login: Use your registered mobile/email and password to sign in.
  • Select Zone: Choose the RRB Zone (e.g., Mumbai, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar) you wish to apply for. Note: You can only apply to one zone.
  • Personal Info: Fill in your category (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS), religion, and address.
  • Qualifications: Enter details of your ITI/Diploma/Engineering Degree. You will also need to select your Trade for the Part B exam (e.g., Fitter, Electrician).

Step 3: Upload Documents

  1. Photograph: A recent color passport-size photo (JPEG, 30–70 KB) with a white background.
  2. Signature: Scanned signature on white paper with black/blue ink (JPEG, 30–70 KB).
  3. SC/ST Certificate: Only if you are seeking a free travel pass for exams (PDF format).

Step 4: Examination Fee Payment

  • Pay Online: Use Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card, or UPI.
  • Fees: ₹500 for General/OBC; ₹250 for SC/ST/Female/Ex-SM.
  • Note: A portion of this fee is refunded to your bank account after you appear for the CBT-1 exam.
