The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) conducts the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) examination to recruit candidates for various Group A and Group B posts in the state. Here are the details of the OPSC OCS syllabus:

Prelims Syllabus:-

General Studies Paper I:

  • Current events of national and international importance
  • History of India and the Indian National Movement
  • Geography of India and the world
  • Indian polity and governance
  • Economic and social development
  • Environmental ecology, biodiversity, and climate change
  • General science

General Studies Paper II (CSAT):

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision making and problem solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy and data interpretation

Mains Syllabus :-

  • Qualifying Papers:
    • Odia Language: comprehension, précis writing, short essays, grammar, and vocabulary
    • English Language: comprehension, précis writing, short essays, grammar, and vocabulary
  • Papers Counted for Merit:
    • Essay: essays on multiple topics
    • General Studies I: Indian heritage and culture, history, and geography of India and the world
    • General Studies II: governance, constitution, polity, and inter-state relations
    • General Studies III :- technology, economic development, bio-diversity, and environment, Security and disaster management
    • General Studies IV: ethics, integrity, and aptitude
    • Optional Subject Papers: candidates can choose one subject from a list of optional subjects

Optional Subject:-

  • There are 47 optional subjects, including literature, public administration, law, sociology, political science, and more

Exam Pattern :-

Prelims :-

two objective-type papers (General Studies I and II) with 200 marks each

Mains :-

nine descriptive papers, including two qualifying papers (Odia and English) and seven papers counted for merit

Interview :-

personality test and assessment of intellectual and personal qualities

Selection Process:-

  • Prelims: qualifying examination
  • Mains: marks counted for final merit
  • Interview: final stage of selection
