Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, candidates must carefully check eligibility conditions.

Nationality

The applicant must be an Indian citizen.

Experience Requirement

  • The candidate must have at least three years of practice as an advocate as on the last date of application.
  • Experience will be calculated from the date of registration with the State Bar Council.

Candidates practicing in High Court or Supreme Court must provide certification from authorized advocates with minimum 10 years of experience.

Educational Qualification

  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university.

Salary / Pay Scale

The selected candidates for Civil Judge (Junior Division) will receive salary as per Bihar Judicial Pay Rules.

Bihar Judiciary 2026 Application Fee

Important Payment Rules:

  • Payment Method: The fee must be paid online through the BPSC Online Portal using Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card.
  • Aadhaar Requirement: If you do not provide your Aadhaar Number during registration, you will be charged an additional Biometric Fee of ₹200.
  • Non-Refundable: The fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • Deadline: The last date to complete the fee payment is 18 March 2026.

Selection Process

The selection process for the 33rd Bihar Judicial Service Competitive Examination 2026 consists of three successive stages. Candidates must qualify each stage to proceed to the next.

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

This is a screening test. The marks obtained here are not added to the final merit list.

  • Paper I: General Studies (100 Marks)
  • Paper II: Law (150 Marks)
  • Topics: Includes General Knowledge, Elementary General Science, Law of Evidence and Procedure, Constitutional Law of India and England, Hindu Law, and Muslim Law.
  • Qualifying Marks: Minimum 45% for General and 40% for Reserved categories.

2. Main Examination (Written / Descriptive)

Candidates who qualify for the Prelims (roughly 10 times the number of vacancies) are eligible for the Mains. This stage comprises five compulsory papers and three elective papers.

Compulsory Papers:

  1. General Knowledge (including Current Affairs): 150 Marks
  2. Elementary General Science: 100 Marks
  3. General Hindi: 100 Marks (Qualifying only – 30 marks required)
  4. General English: 100 Marks (Qualifying only – 30 marks required)
  5. Law of Evidence and Procedure: 150 Marks

Optional/Elective Papers (Choose 3 out of 5):

  • Constitutional and Administrative Law of India: 150 Marks
  • Hindu Law and Muslim Law: 150 Marks
  • Law of Transfer of Property, Principles of Equity, Law of Trusts and Specific Relief: 150 Marks
  • Law of Contracts and Torts: 150 Marks
  • Commercial Law: 150 Marks

3. Interview (Viva-Voce)

Candidates who clear the Mains (roughly 3 times the number of vacancies) are called for the interview.

  • Total Marks: 100 Marks
  • Qualifying Criteria: You must secure at least 35% marks in the interview to be considered for the final merit list.

Final Merit List: The final ranking is prepared based on the combined marks of the Main Written Exam and the Interview.

How to Apply ?

To apply for the 33rd Bihar Judicial Service 2026, you must complete the process through the official BPSC Online Application Portal. The window is open from 25 February 2026 to 18 March 2026.

Step-by-Step Application Guide

Step 1: One-Time Registration (OTR)

  • Visit the BPSC Online Portal.
  • Click on “Apply Online” for Advertisement No. 12/2026.
  • Fill in your basic details: Name, Father’s Name, DOB, and Aadhaar Number (providing Aadhaar saves you the ₹200 biometric fee).
  • Verify your Mobile Number and Email ID via OTP.
  • Submit to receive your User ID and Password.

Step 2: Payment of Application Fee

  • Log in using your new credentials.
  • Click the “Online Payment” link.
  • Pay the fee (₹100 for all categories) via Net Banking, Debit, or Credit Card.
  • Wait for the payment status to update to “Success” before proceeding.

Step 3: Filling the Application Form

  • Log in again and click “Application Form.”
  • Enter your educational qualifications (LL.B. details) and 3-year practice experience.
  • Select your 3 Optional Subjects for the Mains exam carefully, as these cannot be changed later.
  • Choose your preferred Exam Center (usually within Bihar).

Step 4: Uploading Documents

  • Photograph: Recent passport-size color photo (clear background).
  • Signature: Upload both Hindi and English signatures separately.
  • Certificates: Upload PDF copies of your Matriculation certificate (for DOB) and LL.B. Degree.

Step 5: Final Submission

  • Preview your entire application to check for spelling errors.
  • Click “Submit.”
  • Download and print the completed application form (Form A & B) for your records. You will need this during the interview.
