The Railway Recruitment Board (RRBs) has released a short RRB Group D Notification 2026 (CEN 09/2025) on 23rd December 2025 through the Employment Newspaper, notifying the registration dates and number of vacancies. The detailed notification will be released soon on the official website with complete details for 22000 vacancies for the Level 1 posts of Pointsman, Assistant, Track Maintainer, Assistant Loco Shed, Assistant Operations, and other details.

The Railway Recruitment Board conducts the RRB Group D Level 1 exam, giving 10th-pass candidates a golden opportunity to fulfil their dream of joining Indian Railways. Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), on behalf of the Indian Railways, is responsible for conducting the entire recruitment process for the RRB Group D Level 1 New Vacancy. Railway RRB Group D Vacancy;

The RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 marks the lowest vacancy trend in eight years, with 22,000 openings. Previously, the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) released 103,769 vacancies in 2019 and 32,438 vacancies in 2024. The table below shows the year-wise trend of RRB Group D vacancies.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for RRB Group D will be calculated in terms of nationality, educational qualification, and age limit. Only those candidates will be selected for RRB Group D recruitment process who fulfill the RRB Group D Eligibility Criteria as mentioned below An eligibility update for RRB Group D 2026 has been notified saying CCAA-certified candidates are eligible to apply for Railway Group D CCAA Recruitment 2026.

Nationality :-

A candidate must be either:

a. a citizen of India, or
b. a citizen of Nepal, or
c. a subject of Bhutan, or
d. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
e. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. 

Education Qualification :-

  • Candidates with a 10th pass or ITI or equivalent or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT are eligible to apply for the RRB Group D 2026 Exam.
  • Candidates with Course Completed Act Apprentices/ITI for the post of Level-1 unless otherwise specified.
  • Those awaiting the results of their final examination of the prescribed minimum educational/technical qualification are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have completed Course Complete Act Apprentices from any trade.

Age Limit (as on 01/01/2026) :-

Candidates who fall in the age group of 18 to 33 years as of 1st January 2026 are eligible to apply for the Railway RRB Group D exam. Age relaxation is provided as per the norms.

Medical Standards

Candidates invited for Document Verification (DV) must pass the Railway Administration’s medical fitness test(s). This ensures they are medically capable of performing the duties required for their chosen post(s).

Application Fee

The candidates who are interested in RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 have to pay the requisite application fee as per the table below. The fees are to be paid online through debit, credit, and net banking.

Refund Amount (On Appearing For CBT)

  • For GEN/OBC: Out of this fee of Rs 500 an amount of Rs 400 shall be refunded duly deducting bank charges, on appearing in 1st Stage CBT.
  • For SC/ST/PWD/Women/Ex-Sm/Transgender/Minorities/Economically Backward: This fee of Rs 250 shall be refunded duly deducting bank charges as applicable on appearing in 1st Stage CBT.

Documents Required 

  1. Scanned passport-size photograph and signature.
  2. 10th certificate or ITI certificate for educational qualification proof.
  3. Government-issued ID proof (Aadhar Card, PAN Card, etc.).
  4. Category certificate (if applicable).
  5. Disability certificate (if applicable).

Steps to Apply for Railway RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 :-

Candidates have to submit their online applications for RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 by following the below-mentioned steps. 

  1. Visit the official website http://www.rrbcdg.gov.in/.
  2. Click on the ‘New Registration’ link.
  3. Register for the exam and submit the required details like name, date of birth and father’s name, mother’s name, Aadhaar Number, SSLC/Matric registration number, year of passing, mobile number, email ID and then submit the registration form.
  4. Upon registration, candidates need to verify their email ID and mobile number through OTP.
  5. Login on the home page using the registration number and password.
  6. In Part I of the application page, candidates had to provide the details of educational qualification, community, gender, religion, Ex-Servicemen, CCAA, Minority, Economically Backward Class Age Relaxation and other details.
  7. In Part II of the application page, candidates had to indicate his/her priority/preference for the posts.
  8. On completion of application details, candidates were redirected to the payment page using Online Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI and Offline Challan.
  9. Candidates were required to choose the exam language.
  10. Candidates had to fill in the details of a valid photo ID card.
  11. Enter bank details to get the refund of fees.
  12. Candidates had to upload their scanned images of photographs and signatures as per the format and SC/ST candidates were required to upload the category certificates.
  13. Candidates had to agree to the terms and conditions and submit the application form.

RRB Group D 2026 Level 1 Exam Pattern

Railway Administration reserves the right to conduct the CBT in either single or multi-stage mode. Candidates qualifying in the CBT shall have to undergo a Physical Efficiency Test (PET). It will be followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination. There shall be a negative marking for 1/3rd marks for each wrong answer.

The minimum percentage of marks for shortlisting for UR is 40%, EWS is 40%, OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST is 30%.

Salary Structure

The basic salary of candidates selected under RRB Group D Recruitment will be Rs 18,000. Besides the basic pay, the selected candidates will be provided with other allowances including Dearness Allowance (DA), Daily Allowance, Transport Allowance, House Rent Allowance (HRA), Allowance for Night Duty, Medical Facilities, Overtime Allowance etc. The in-hand salary of RRB Group Posts is Rs. 22,500 to Rs. 25,380 per month.

RRB Group D 2026 Admit Card

The CBT Admit card will be released tentatively 10 days before the exam date. The Admit Card for PET will be issued to those candidates who have successfully cleared CBT of RRB Group D Level-I 2026. To login to the official website of the Railway Recruitment Board, a candidate is supposed to have:

  1. Registration Number/Roll Number
  2. Date of Birth/Password

The admit card for the RRB Group D 2026 exam will be issued to candidates in two phases:

  1. For CBT
  2. For PET
